St. Francis’ views on religious life, as explained in a previous article in this journal, had its foundations in a well-founded theology of compassionate ministry. This origin of all compassion according to St. Francis is God himself. In this article St. Francis’ significance for the church also in South Africa is discussed in detail. It is
